GAME NOTES: Despite being separated by just two hours, Murray State and Southern Illinois are meeting for the first time on the gridiron since the 2003 season. All-time it is the 21st meeting between the schools. SIU won the last meeting by a 32-7 margin which snapped a three-game winning streak for the Racers. Overall MSU has won six of the last nine meetings. The game is the second-straight for Southern Illinois against an OVC opponent, as the Salukis topped Southeast Missouri 30-22 on Saturday. SIU has won four-straight night games at Saluki Stadium and is 29-7 in home night contests since 2002.

SCOUTING MURRAY STATE: Murray State opened the home portion of its schedule with a narrow 28-22 loss to Missouri State on Saturday night. Senior quarterback KD Humphries completed 35-of-52 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times and sacked twice in the loss. Through two games this season he has five interceptions after only throwing seven all of last year. Humphries did pass Tony Romo on the OVC's career total offense list and now ranks ninth with 8,128 yards for his career. He also joined the career top 10 passing touchdowns list and is now tied for ninth with 52 touchdown passes. Junior Jordon Gandy was one of his favorite targets as Gandy hauled in seven passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns (including a 55-yarder). Humphries also completed seven passes to Demetric Johnson who rushed for a team-high 68 yards to finish the game with 168 all-purpose yards. Defensively Lamont Crittendon had 12 tackles including a team-high 3.0 tackles-for-loss while newcomer Zachary Wade finished with a team-high 13 stops

SCOUTING SOUTHERN ILLINOIS: After nearly upsetting FBS foe Florida Atlantic in week one (the Salukis lost 38-30), Southern Illinois picked up its first win of the Nick Hill Era by topping regional rival Southeast Missouri by a 30-22 margin. Hill, who was the team's offensive coordinator last season, was SIU's starting quarterback in 2006 and 2007 and recorded a 21-6 record as a starter and set single-season records for passing yards and total offense. In the victory over the Redhawks transfer quarterback Josh Straughan passed for 265 yards and a touchdown; in two games this season after transferring from Stillman he has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 632 yards. Daquan Isom is the team's leading rusher in averaging 75.0 yards/game. Chase Allen is leading the Salukis in tackles (19) through two games; he also had three quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and blocked kick this season.
