Matt McMahon among favorites for Cincinnati job

MurraySports

4/11/13 - Today's Cincinnati Enquirer lists Murray State's Matt McMahon as one of two favorites to get the head coaching job at the University of Cincinnati.

The Bearcats' athletic director, Mike Bohn, said he expected the seacrh to wrapped up quickly, probably before the four day dead period next week.

The Enquirer's John Fay lists John Brannen of Northern Kentucky and McMahon as the two favorites. And he noted that UC's two previous coaches Mick Cronin and Bob Huggins came from smaller Division I programs.

Here's the breakdown on McMahon and Brannen.

Age
McMahon: 40
Brannen: 45

Head Coaching Experience
McMahon: Murray State, 87-42, four years
Brannen: Northern Kentucky University, 81-51, four years

NCAA Tournaments
McMahon: Two appearances, 1-2 (defeated No. 5 seed Marquette this year)
Brannen: Two appearances, 0-2 (also one NIT, 0-1)

Two other factors to consider...

As the head coach at Northern Kentucky, Brannen coaches right across the river from Cincinnati. So, he is well known in the area.

McMahon had the National Player of the Year playing for him this year.

How all that will affect the final choice is anybody's guess. But, we should know within the next week.
