NOTEWORTHY

The all-time series between Murray State and Tennessee Tech dates back 1930 and Saturday will mark the 87th all-time matchup between the schools.

Murray State won four-straight from 2010-13, followed by Tennessee Tech winning three in a row from 2014-16. Over the past two years the series is tied. A year ago, Murray State scored with 2:36 left to pull out a 36-31 win in Cookeville.

Coming off its open date, Tennessee Tech enters this week having won three of its last four games.

Prior to its open date, the Golden Eagles dominated Virginia-Lynchburg 56-13. The team tallied 404 yards of total offense and held the Dragons to just 156 yards.

Running back David Gist reached the 100-yard plateau for the fourth-straight game, gaining 127 yards and scoring two touchdowns on just 13 carries (9.8 ypc). He is the first TTU running back with four-straight 100-yard games since Derek White in 2007.  White ranks third in the OVC (and 27th nationally) in rushing (87.1 yards/game).

Freshman defensive lineman Devin Squires (whose Dad, Thomas, is a member of the TTU Hall of Fame), had five tackles and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

TTU is first in the OVC and 25th nationally in rushing defense (115.2 yards/game).

Murray State fell behind 21-0 midway through the third quarter at Tennessee State but were able to tie the game with 4:30 to play when Preston Rice connected with LaMartez Brooks for a 54-yard touchdown pass (the first play of the possession). TSU responded with a score, but the Racers were unable to convert on the ensuing possession, going four-and-out.

Rice made his return to the quarterback position and finished with 135 yards of total offense. Rice had a rushing touchdown, which marked the 15th of his career, leaving him two shy of becoming the first quarterback in MSU's career rushing touchdown Top 10 list.

Murray State is the least penalized team in the OVC. The Racers rank 32nd nationally in fewest penalties/game (5.38) and 38th nationally in fewest yards penalized/game (48.5).
