NOTEWORTHY

Murray State and Eastern Illinois will meet for the second time this season and the 38th time overall on Saturday.

Murray State has won four in a row against Eastern Illinois and five of the last six meetings, including a 22-6 victory back in October. In that contest the Racers built a 19-0 lead entering the fourth quarter on its way to the win. MSU running back Damonta Witherspoon finished the game with 141 yards on 27 carries (5.2 ypc). EIU's Aaron Foulkes had six catches for 123 yards and the lone Panther touchdown of the game.

Murray State won its second-straight game, topping Southeast Missouri 28-10 last week. IT puts the team in a position to finish the season with a winning record and .500 Conference mark with a win this week. It would mark the first back-to-back winning seasons for the team since 2010-11.

Quarterback DJ Williams was named Stats Perform National Freshman of the Week after passing for 175 yards and rushing for a game-high 121 yards and two touchdowns. Williams had a 58-yard rush and a 73-yard completion (the ninth-longest in school history). He led scoring drives of 65, 83, 61 and 71 yards on the day.

Damonta Witherspoon added 113 rushing yards and a touchdown, marking the first time since 2018 that team had two 100-yard rushers in the same contest.  Witherspoon also threw a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Murray State held SEMO to 0-for-13 on third down, marking the first time since the 2013 season the team had accomplished that feat.

Eastern Illinois is coming off its open date as it looks to snap a five-game losing streak.

Zach Weir made his first collegiate start two weeks ago against Austin Peay, going 26-of-50 for 296 yards and a touchdown.

Weir's touchdown came late in the game and was 15 yards to Isaiah Hill. In only four games this season (after missing the beginning of the year due to injury), Hill has a team-high 26 catches for 383 yards and two scores.

Jason Johnson tallied six tackles and forced and recovered a fumble against the Govs. He now leads the OVC and ranks 18th nationally in tackles (9.8/game).

Jaelin Benefield leads EIU in rushing yards per game (50.0) in his three contests played this season.
