Head coach Mitch Stewart is pleased to announce the signing of four student-athletes that have chosen to further their educational and football careers at Murray State. Wednesday's signings are part of the early signing period for NCAA Division I football, now in its second year.
Wednesday's signings includes one junior college transfers and three high school players comprised of a quarterback, a defensive back and two defensive line/linebacker combos. Below is information about each of the first members of the class of 2019.
Brandon Wharton II · QB · 6-5 ·
190 · Nolensville, Tenn. (Nolensville HS)
Wharton is a dual-threat
quarterback and a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports, who just capped
his third season as QB1 for the Knights. Built for speed, he currently runs
a 4.84 40-yard dash which helped him account for nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards
as a junior.

Carothers just completed his second
season at Itawamba when he racked up 57 tackles, 2.5 sacks 10.0 tackles-for-loss
and two fumble recoveries. As a freshman, he totaled 37 tackles, 4.5 sacks and
9.0 tackles for loss.
CJ Barnes · DL/LB · 6-5 · 235

Barnes capped an outstanding
career for the Dragons by recording 54 tackles with a mind-boggling 22.0 going
for loss. In addition, the senior had 10.0 sacks on the year, two forced fumbles,
one fumble recovery and three pass deflections. As a junior, Barnes had 57 tackles,
9.0 for loss and 5.0 sacks
AJ McCorkle · DB · 5-11 · 185

McCorkle is a three-star rated defensive
back by 247Sports who prepped at Salem HS. He made 44 tackles in his senior
season in addition to racking up 50 yards on two interceptions, deflecting two
passes, causing one fumble and recovering another. He also played a bit at quarterback
for the Seminoles going 7-for-18 over two games for 104 yards and a touchdown.
